How to recognise one

Every placement carries a quiet caption directly above it, in small grey text — never a pill or badge on the unit itself. A pill reads as us vouching for whatever is inside it; a caption reads as what it is: a neutral placement, labelled and set apart from the editorial content around it. The caption text tells you what kind of unit it is:

• “From MRIPrices.ca” — an internal cross-link we wrote ourselves: to a province’s wait-time page, an exam comparison, or similar. Nobody paid for this and nothing about it is chosen by an advertiser.
• “Featured clinic” — one specific clinic, named and linked to its own site. As of today this is unpaid: no clinic has paid to appear here, and which clinic shows is not influenced by any fee. It exists because a comparison table can only show so much on one page, and a featured card is a second way to reach a clinic’s own site beyond the row it already has in the table below.
• “Paid featured listing” — reserved for a genuinely paid placement. None exists on the site yet; a clinic would need a signed flat-fee listing agreement first (see below).
• “Advertisement” — reserved for a banner- style unit on a page that is not a price comparison (a blog post, for example). No such page exists on this site yet.

Placements never affect the ranking

Featured listings, when they exist, will be paid — and a clinic that pays to be featured is excluded from the ranked price comparison table on that page. The table you compare clinics in is never for sale, in either direction: paying does not move a clinic up it, and it does not buy a clinic a place in it that its own published price wouldn’t otherwise earn.

A placement is also never allowed to appear directly above the page’s cheapest-clinic highlight or its price table — those positions are reserved for our own cross-links only, specifically so a paid or featured unit can never look like part of the ranking itself.

The links themselves

Every placement link routes through a first-party redirect on this domain before continuing to its destination, which is how a click is counted at all — see the privacy page for exactly what that records. Every placement link carries rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"; a genuinely paid placement additionally carries sponsored, per the search engines’ own documented convention for a paid link. Marking an unpaid link as sponsored would misrepresent it — so only a paid one ever carries that value.

This is a different link from the per-clinic link inside the price comparison table itself, which is not a placement at all: it is not labelled, not a paid position, and points wherever the clinic’s own published rate sheet says to go, exactly like every other row in the table.

How a placement is measured

Views and clicks on a placement are counted independently on our side, specifically so a claimed click count from any future partner can be checked rather than trusted. See the privacy page for what that measurement does and does not record about you.
